The Hub - Aberdeen University
Catershop were invited onto this project by the university estates department to design a new catering facility.
The challenge was to convert an existing facility that was being underutilised. Our brief was to design and create a food court concept which would be appealing to the students.
The client wanted the refurbished building to have a ‘WOW’ factor. In order to achieve this we worked closely with the architect and catering department in order to create a design concept that was both visually appealing and practically functional.

Unit 1 – Fast Food Outlet
Offering the students traditional beef burgers and char-grilled chicken, options are available with chips.
Unit 2 – Pizza and Pasta
Freshly prepared and baked on site pizza, a selection of both hot and cold pasta dishes.
Unit 3 – Kiosk
Kiosk style self service outlet offering freshly made baguettes, sandwiches and a range of salads. The baguettes are freshly baked on site. To compliment the food offering we also supplied and installed a range of self service hot & cold beverage machines.
Unit 4 – Oriental Cuisine & Noodle Bar
At first this outlet will be supplying traditional oriental & Asian cuisine. However due to the diverse nature of the design and the use of the induction cooking technology within the kitchen there is potential that this unit could be altered to offer different food offerings.
Unit 5 – Traditional Hot & Cold Food
This is a food regeneration type unit that will offer traditional British menu. We have incorporated induction cooking technology and electric salamander grills within the cooking area to add diversity to the range of food that could be offered.
Student Bar
On the ground floor level we have designed and installed freestanding oval shaped bar unit. We have created a fully bespoke back bar system and front counter area, the bar itself has been dressed up using carefully selected laminate for the back bar and subtly lit DIAFOS front panels for the main bar front.
Catershop also designed; supplied and installed a single wash up area with specialist fabricated items and a Meiko rack type dishwasher.
We also designed, supplied and installed all associated storage areas. These areas contain cold and freezer rooms, combined dual temperature walk through rooms and storage racking to suit.
