The East Area Rig is accommodation module housing up to 130 men.  The final location for this module is Nigeria.  The rig was built in a unique way by building and fitting out individual modules at Edzel in Scotland.  The modules were then welded together as complete units and fitted to the jacket superstructure in South Shields.  The completed superstructure was then loaded onto a specialist transportation barge.  The crane required to lift this had to have the capacity to lift up to 130,000 tons.

The client ESSO, specified that all equipment on board needed to be of American origin and conform to NSF standards.  Catershop co-ordinated this together with Vulcan Hart of New York, USA.  All equipment was shipped to the Catershop warehouse in Norwich and transported in small batches as each individual module became ready.  All canopy systems had integral fire suppression systems built in.  The equipment was engineered and fabricated to have a lifespan of 25 years.

Catershop also designed and installed the full front of house servery system, associated cold, freeze and ambient storage areas.  Also included on the project was a full laundry and laundry finishing facility.

This project was designed, installed and project managed in conjunction with Technip Offshore of France.
